Having trouble getting your tap adapter to work? You're not alone. Here are some helpful tips to get everything connected smoothly.
First, Know This:
The tap adapters and hoses we sell are pre-tested to work together.
If you start by connecting the hose to one end of the adapter, they will fit correctly. Problems typically arise with the faucet connection—not the hose.
Common Tap Adapter Issues & Solutions
1. Try Different Faucets in the Home
Tap adapters are designed to fit standard North American faucets, but not all taps are compatible—especially:
- IKEA faucets
- Designer or non-threaded spouts
- Uncommon bathroom fixtures
Try connecting to:
- Kitchen faucet
- Laundry sink
- Bathroom tap (after removing aerator)
- Bathtub spout or showerhead (if removable)
2. Remove the Faucet Aerator or Spout Tip
Most faucets have an aerator (the screen at the end). This often needs to be unscrewed before attaching the tap adapter.
- Use pliers or a rubber grip to gently remove it
- Check if the adapter fits once the spout is exposed
3. Check Adapter Orientation
You might mistakenly use the wrong side.
Try this instead:
- Attach the hose to one end of the adapter first
- Then connect the other end to the faucet
4. Still Doesn’t Fit? Try a Hardware Store
If none of your faucets are compatible, we recommend:
- Measuring the thread diameter of your faucet
- Visiting a local hardware store like Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Rona, or Lowe’s
- Asking for help selecting a suitable faucet-to-garden-hose adapter
You’ll likely find something that works with your existing setup.
5. Ask Your Midwife
Midwives are often very familiar with different faucet setups used during homebirths.
They may be able to suggest a workaround or help connect everything when it’s time to set up.
